Wonderful Papier-Mache slipper chair gilded, painted and inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
Superb form and condition.
My period is usually pre 1840 but these Papier-Mache forms (which are 1870) are so amazing that I’ve had a dozen of so over the years. The shape of the top is pretty much impossible with unlaminated wood. These are worked up in layers of course paper and glue over a mold to produce these amazing undulating shapes.
