No. R16170
Superb George II walnut and parcel gilt mirror.
Bold swan’s necks crest with rosettes flanking a wonderful cabochon finial.
The mirror is framed with S-hook devices supported tasseled drapery swags, above shell-applied apron.
The burl walnut has a wonderful old glow.
The walnut is highly figured but is also spalted. Spalted wood is wood that is cut (it can occur in live trees - but usually not) which is kept wet and a type of fungus grows in the sapwood rays and turns it dark (called zone lines) which magnifies the figure of the wood. (only works in hard wood)
