Charles X Gilded Candelabra

Superb matched pair of Charles X (1824 - 1830) fire gilded and patinated bronze four light candelabra.

These are in quite amazing condition and all original (even all the removable bobeches are there).

The gold is the original fire gilt (a mixture of mercury and 24 carat gold powder mixed to form an amalgam which is painted on the bronze - then place in an oven - the mercury evaporates leaving a layer of gold bonded to the bronze - nice trick!)
