The Most Wonderful William & Mary Stool I’ve Ever Seen !!!

No. R16262

The most wonderful William & Mary stool I’ve ever seen !!!

Turned and carved beech, ebonized with gilded details.

The construction details are what you have to find on a period W & M stool:
1)  Beneath the carved & gilded flower element is the main W & M leg design - the gadrooned trumpet form - and you'll note that there are four pieces of wood adhered to make the original square leg large enough to turn this element.
2)  This stool has "Post feet" that are original and glued on a post which is an extension of the original leg (again to be larger than the original size of the leg before turning).

Remarkable, considering it's three hundred and thirty years old and in quite perfect condition!

The only repair is the addition of four glue blocks underneath in the corners (probably why it survived).

Truly wonderful form and carved detail.
