Superb Boston “Cumberland” Action Drop Leaf Dining Table

No. R16224

Superb Boston “Cumberland” action drop leaf dining table with highly figured mahogany top probably made by Thomas Seymour either in his own shop or when he was the foreman at Isaac Vose’s shop.

All four legs of this type of table swing out to support the leaves.  The two benefits of this form are:

•  When the legs are open it places the supports out towards the corners of the table for stability and the legs reach out from near the center of the table so there is nothing for people to hit with their knees on the sides or ends of the table.

•  The other advantage is the table goes from 65 inches wide to only 17 inches, so it can be stored behind a sofa or along the wall.
