Pair of Flemish Baroque Brass Pricket Sticks

No. R15643

Pair of Dutch (Flemish) Baroque brass pricket sticks.

Each with a bobeche and applied iron pricket, above the bold turned baluster shaft, raised on a stepped dome base.

This type of candlestick solved the problem of casting a closed mold over 180º - by leaving both ends open (with the center sand cast held in place on a rod protruding out each end and secured relative to the outside mold).  The pricket is then added, formed out of iron and riveted in place on the bobeche.

Absolutely wonderful color!

Small repair on one lip.

Reference:  This pair is almost identical (just somewhat bolder) to a pair in, “Vlaams Koper en Brons” by Ignace Van Canneyt & Angelo Verschaeve (page 49 fig 91a)
